More and more I'm finding out that I'm about as helpful in a Chinese restaurant as a book of matches on the moon. I can't order, I can't ask where the bathroom is, I can't get a glass of water. Luckily Felix has a huge Chinese family to help me with all of these tasks. Last Saturday we went out with them and I tasted a new dish I loved and wanted to inform you about:
These are pea shoots. But not just any pea shoot. They are large pea shoots. The small ones are ok, but I find that the garlic sauce that they are stir-fried in usually takes over the whole dish. Yet if you have the large pea shoots, the flavors in the sauce and the greens balance nicely and create a really good dish. I found out about these because our cousin Jenny ordered them- the problem with this is now that I've explained this yummy dish, I can't tell you its name in Chinese. Isn't that evil of me? I would also tell you the place (it was on Clement St. between 4th and 5th)...but...well- you know. Yet, I can tell you a good rule on finding a great Chinese restaurant: if you are only white person there, that's a great start. And since you might want a little more than that rule- here are a few links:

2) List of Award Winning Chinese Food in SF.
3) Yuet Lee- it's my favorite Chinese restaurant in SF
that is one of my favorate dishes too. chinese call it:
Large: DA, pea: DOE, shoots: MEW
